Since 2017 Strampalana has been a small bottega based in Como, Italy.
"Strampalana" comes from two Italian words: "lana", wool, and "strampalato", unordinary, irrational, crazy. Strampalana is a way to look at everyday life with renewed eyes, because, yes, colour can cheer up your routine and lift up your mood.
Strampalana is slow. Its procedures take a long time. Its items are few.
Strampalana is unique. No bags alike. Only one-of-a-kind items.
Strampalana follows its own rules and trends.
Strampalana is proud of being totally handcrafted in Italy.
Strampalana is deeply linked to Italian traditions and artistic background, with a rustic flavour due to the employment of simple, natural materials and slow, manual mehods.
Paint your life!
Strampalana’s style is defined by its exclusive front panels. No bag front looks like the other, all are one-of-a-kind pieces.
Strampalana’s concept of a bag front is basically “splashes” of colour. No flowers, no animals, no landscapes. The yarns dance together to create an apparently casual embrace of spirals, triangles, circles, swirls and other abstract shapes which spring right from the crafter’s mind in its constant search for a peaceful dimension.
Strampalana’s style is a mixture of different techniques: traditional crochet, free motion crocheting and traditional embroidery. All applied intuitively and naively.
The result is both appealing to the eyes and inspiring for the soul. A swarm of colours that match with every outfit and gives that pictorial touch even to the most austere monochromatic look.
